Doug & Valerie

Doug was born in Tampa in 1948. Growing up in Tampa, Doug attended public schools and graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1966. He has a BBA from Waters College and a Masters degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University. Doug has been in sales and marketing management since 1966. He was with MacMillan Publishing from 1966 until 1975 when he started Southern Curriculum Services, Inc. (SCS) a regional school supply chain with retail stores in Tampa, Melbourne and Columbus, Georgia. He remained with SCS as president until 1984 when the business was sold. At that time he began a second career in military sales as a manufacturer’s representative. From 1984 until 1999 Doug was responsible for sales management with military exchange sales in the southeast US, the Caribbean and Central America. In 1999 Doug was selected to head the Government Sales Division of an international company. He retired in July 2006. Concurrent with his sales and marketing career he served for over 30 years in the Florida Army National Guard, and for 5 years in the Army Reserves. He began his military career as a private and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in December 2003. During that time he served in command positions at various size units to include two tours as a battalion commander. Doug was also active with the Civil Air Patrol. He was unit commander of the Civil Air Patrol in Zephyrhills, Florida and started the youth aviation program at that location.

In 1996 Doug joined the newly formed Rotary Club of New Tampa. Doug served as Club President of the Rotary Club of New Tampa for 2001-02. He also served for 5 years on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of New Tampa. At district level Doug has served on the membership and foundation committees and as District 6890 International Service Chairman for 2005-06. Doug is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a Rotary Benefactor. He is a member of several Rotary Global Networking Groups. He and Valerie belong to the Rotary Action Group on Population and Development (RFPD, International Travel and Hosting, the International Fellowship on Yachting, and is the Treasurer of the International Fellowship on Parades and Festivals. Doug & Valerie have hosted six GSE teams and have attended numerous Rotary International conferences.

Doug and Valerie were married in Great Britain in 1968. They have one daughter and two grandchildren. Doug and Valerie enjoy sailing, travel, and spending time with their three dogs.
